Finance minister Vítor Gaspar said yesterday that income tax increases would include a special 4 per cent levy on earnings. The average tax rate would increase from 9.8 per cent of earnings to 13.2 per cent.
The budget is already sparking street protests, and many senior politicians have urged PM Coelho to show restraint on fiscal consolidation.
President Silva posting on his official facebook page said, that it was not right to try to meet deficit-reduction targets “at any cost”

kyllä se harmittaa kun verot nousee varsinkin kun on harmaalle taloidelle opineet.
Portugalin tuloverotus on progressiivinen ja sen vaihteluväli on vuonna 2011 ollut 11,5% - 46,5%.
Onhan tuo korotus tuntuva. Neljän prosenttiyksikön korotus tarkoittaisi alarajalla suhteellisesti noin 35 %:n korotusta.
Se on kansannousun paikka.
Portugali on siis veroparatiisi, Sipilä oli oikeassa, etelä-euroopan maat voisivat hoitaa kriisinsä itse jos veroaste nostettaisiin pohjoismaiselle tasolle
