MLADA BOLESLAV, Czech Republic (AFX) - Volkswagen AG unit Skoda Auto said it sold 462,321 cars and small utility vehicles in 2001, up 6.2 pct on the year earlier.
Company spokesman Milan Smutny said the increase marked the seventh consecutive year of unit sales growth and set a new record high.
Sales in western Europe were up 7.4 pct at 246,048 vehicles, including a 5.8 pct rise to 68,886 in Germany.
Sales in eastern Europe outside the Czech Republic were up 11.2 pct at 116,933 units.
Domestic sales were up 1.9 pct at 82,405 vehicles, for a 52.6 pct market share.
