Koko joulu on samanlaista hekuman ja belsebubin palvontaa, kuten tutkijat kertovat. Raamattu varoittaa joulukuusen palvonnasta, paljon ennenkuin siitä tuli käytäntö länsimaissa:
"Even such idolatrous items as the "Christmas tree" are condemned in the Word of YEHOVAH God! Jeremiah the prophet wrote,
"Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord, LEARN NOT THE WAY OF THE HEATHEN, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them [such as the waning sun at the winter solstice!].

tuo Raamatun kohta ei ennusta mitään eikä liity joulukuuseen. Siinä varoitetaan sen ajan juutalaisia palvomasta asera-karsikkoja, kuten naapurikansat tekivät. Asera-karsikot olivat katkaistuja puunrunkoja, joista oli karsittu oksat pois ja jätetty jäljelle oksantyngät, joihin ripustettiin kulta- ja hopeakoruja. Näitä puita pakanat pitivät jumalinaan.
