Silloin lapsena ollessani vielä jehovien pauloissa, muistan kuinka siitä puhuttiin seuraavana päivänä, jos radisossa tai tv:ssä oli mainittu nimi jehova. Olimme ylpeitä nimemmme maitsemisesta. Nykyään kultista poispäässeennä asia huvittaa.
>>Nykyään kultista poispäässeennä asia huvittaa.
Tässä asiassa on se nurinkurisuus, että Vartiotorniseura kiivailee Jehova-nimiversion ylläpidosta ja toisaalta samaan aikaan esittää kantanaan, että Jahve olisi lähempänä alkuperäistä lausumisasua;
WHY “YAHWEH”?
“Yahweh” (sometimes “Jahveh”) is simply an attempt to express God’s name in a form nearer to the original Hebrew. (w80 Feb. 1 p.6)
Correct Pronunciation of the Divine Name.
“Jehovah” is the best known English pronunciation of the divine name, although “Yahweh” is favored by most Hebrew scholars. (it-2 p.5)
"As to the Old Testament name of God, certainly the spelling and pronunciation 'Jehovah' were originally a blunder." (The Bible in Living English by Stephen T. Byington, 1972, p.7, Watch Tower Bible And Tract Society Of Pennsylvania)
Noista lainauksista voi tietysti lukea asiaa monellakin tavalla, mutta esim tämä: "Yahweh” (sometimes “Jahveh”) is simply an attempt to express God’s name in a form nearer to the original Hebrew.
"The first recorded use of this form [Jehovah] dates from the 13th century C.E. [after Christ]. Raymundus Martini, a Spanish monk of the Dominican order, used it in his book Pugio Fidei of the year 1270. Hebrew scholars generally favor ‘Yahweh’ as the most likely pronounciation" (Aid to Bible Understanding pp. 884-885).
Tai tässä:
"Although the exact pronunciation of the Divine Name in Hebrew is not known today, what pronunciation might be the closest? A recent Roman Catholic version, The Holy Bible, edited by Monsignor T. O’Connell, commenting on Exodus 3:14, says: “I am who am: apparently this utterance is the source of the word Yahweh, the proper personal name of the God of Israel.” The Revised Standard Version states: “It is almost if not quite certain that the Name was originally pronounced ‘Yahweh.’” The Evening Star article said: “If the name were to be spelled out it would be more correct to spell it as ‘Yahweh.’....Yes, many Bible scholars acknowledge that “Yahweh” more nearly represents the Hebrew pronunciation of the Divine Name. But this also shows the inexcusability of the religions of Christendom for taking the Divine Name away from Bible translations and everyday worship! If the pronunciation “Yahweh,” or even another, is said to be more correct, then why do they not use it? What sense does it make to admit a more correct pronunciation and then eliminate its usage altogether? Truly, it is outright hypocrisy to defend one pronunciation over another and then never use either!" (w64 July 15 p. 422)
Tai tässä:
"Inserting the vowels of Jabe [the Samaritan pronunciation] into the original Hebrew consonant text, we obtain the form Jahveh (Yahweh), which has been generally accepted by modern scholars as the true pronunciation of the Divine name.” The New World Bible Translation Committee stated: “While inclining to view the pronunciation ‘Yah·weh´” as the more correct way, we have retained the form ‘Jehovah’ because of people’s familiarity with it since the 14th century. Moreover, it preserves, equally with other forms, the four letters of the tetragrammaton JHVH.” (w60 Aug. 1 p. 455)
Tai tässä:
"The Bible was written in Hebrew, Aramaic and common Greek originally; and in the Hebrew Scriptures the divine name is written as a Tetragrammaton or four Hebrew consonants, which correspond, in Latin, with JHVH, and in English, with YHWH. For centuries the name has been pronounced “Jehovah”, but within the last century Bible scholars have preferred the pronunciation “Yahweh” as more correct...........If in the Revised Standard Version they had chosen to use the form of the name “Yahweh” instead of “Jehovah”, there would have been no room for criticism. We ourselves think the form “Yahweh” is nearer the true pronunciation." (w53 Sept. 1 p. 529-532)
Tai tässä:
"At the Yankee Stadium, when giving his speech introducing the New World Translation, the Society’s president said: “But, while recognizing the merits of the pronunciation ‘Yah·weh´’, the translation committee has used the form ‘Jehovah’ because of its familiarity and because it preserves the four original letters of the Hebrew name. In God’s own time when He reveals the correct pronunciation of his holy name, we will gladly make the accurate correction.”—See The Watchtower, September 15, 1950, page 317 . (w50 Dec. 1 p. 474)

Hepreaksi jumalan nimi on kuten tiedätte jhvh. Me emme voi tietää tarkalleen miten nimi on muinoin lausuttu. Pääasia että nimeä käytetään se on pyhä. Suomeksi nimi on käännetty Jehova.
