“In Syria, over the last three weeks alone, Daesh (ISIS) has lost 3,000 square kilometers (1,160 square miles) and 600 fighters,” – US Secretary of State, John Kerry. The statements were given during a summit in Paris with European allies earlier today (Tuesday). The majority of the deathtoll seems to have been inflicted by the Syrian Arab Army and Russian Airforce in eastern Aleppo (Kuweiris Airbase), southern Aleppo (Khanasser), eastern Homs (Palmyra and Qurayteen) and Deir Ezzor city. Meanwhile, scores of ISIS fighters have also been killed by Kurdish fighters and US airstrikes during clashes in the western Hasakah governorate and the northern parts of ar-Raqqah province. Since the summer of 2015, ISIS has lost an estimated 20% of its self-proclaimed caliphate across the nations of Syria and Iraq. Nevertheless, Abu al-Baghdadi still controls several major cities across the aforementioned countries – most notably Mosul city in Iraq and Raqqah city in Syria. Meanwhile, the Islamic State has also expanded into some areas of Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Somalia while close to 10 million civilians are believed to live under Islamic State rule across these countries.
