Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew her
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
ps. laskekaa kuinka monta kertaa Jeesus ratsasti aasillaan tässä biisissä?

että revi siitä. Tuota huutaa Israel.
Tuskin sinä mielipidettäsi muutat, mutta tässä on
Cohenin omia kommentteja ko. kappaleesta:
Interview (Magazine "Paroles et Musiques" 1985)
Here there is an ironic and warm “feeling.” I
wanted to get into this tradition of the composers
who said “Hallelujah,” but with no precisely
religious point of view. And then I realize there
is a “Hallelujah” more general that we speak to
the world, to life… It's a rather joyous song.
I like very much the last verse. I remember
singin' it to Bob Dylan after his last concert in
Paris. The morning after, I was having coffee with
him and we traded lyrics. Dylan especially liked
this last verse, "And even though it all went
wrong, I stand before the Lord of song with
nothing on my lips but Hallelujah."
Kuten huomaat, Cohen ei tarkoittanut Hallelujah-sanaa
erityisen uskonnolisesti tulkittavaksi.
Ellen: Tämä biisi kertoo varmaan paljon sinusta.
Henna: Niin no, joo. Älä nyt käsitä väärin. En mä mikään uskis ole, vaikka tässä hallelujah sanotaankin.
Ellen:just joo. no mut siunausta nyt silti.
Henna: öö.. kiitos. samoin. tai jotain.
Ei kukaan laskelmoi muuten noin.
kiitos, lauloit kauniisti! miksi kaikki kateus? olet nuori ja osaat laulaa eli pakko etsiä jotain "huonoa"! mitä sillä on väliä mihin kukakin uskoo? ei käsittääkseni kuulu muille!? kilpailuun osallistujilta tuskin kysellään "uskis" asioita missään vaiheessa ja hyvä niin. ja paras kun itse kukin kateellinen kaivaa sanakirjaa kauniiseen käteen ja tarkistaa mistä henna todella lauloi!
