Is Diana Ross joining the cast of ABC TV's Desperate Housewives? The London Free Press reported that the show's producers are eager to have Ross join the cast as a "man-eating, recovering alcoholic lounge singer." Ross reportedly has expressed interest in appearing on the show, but has asked the show runners to come up with a different role from the one originally pitched to her.

Although Ross in known primarily for her singing, she's no stranger to the silver and small screens. Her 1972 portrayal of Billie Holliday in Lady Sings The Blues earned her a Best Actress Oscar nomination, and she went on to appear in two more major features in the '70s, 1975's Mahogany and 1978's The Wiz.

Her last acting role was in the 1999 made-for-TV movie, Double Platinum, which co-starred singer Brandy.

Ross is currently recording her first studio album since 1999's Everyday Is A New Day.

Diana Ross kicks off a brief four-date Australian tour on October 30th in Melbourne. There have been no U.S. dates announced.
