The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported eyewitnesses who live in Sa‘dah village, an eastern suburb of al-Qa'im as saying that the Resistance brought the helicopter down with a heat-seeking surface-to-air missile that blew the helicopter apart in midair.
The correspondent said that there were reports that more than 20 Americans had been aboard the helicopter and it was not known if any had survived because US forces surrounded the area of Sa‘dah and ar-Rummanah, and Jurayjib and swarms of helicopters were prowling the skies over the area at the time of reporting."
