Welcome to twentyfirst century finlandia-
Promised land of private cars ,and nuclear power!
The leader of the most voted party here also said publicly that he want's to lick white house guys ass, which former government here didn't do.

Your nation will mourn when the oil crisis hits here if these car lovers are in charge.... not to mention that people are worried of environment and still they vote for these??? WTF?
I thought theyre the least environment concious party, serving the industry with all means possible?

I voted for the green party and I find what you're saying fucking stupid. Just hang yourself.

Can you please tell me what part was wrong then?

you can go home and f*** your mother.
we don't need you foreigners here to come tell us what to do. this nation was strong in ww2 and stayed intepented and still is. only thing what our capital city's people should be shame of is that those fools voted somalibitch to parlament.

I don't know if you're even slightly serious or some Finnish punk just trying to rile up some comments, but I'll take the bait anyway.

About nuclear power: As I see it, the alternatives are Finnish nuclear power or Russian nuclear power. I prefer the first.

About cars: For many Finns, public transportation is not a viable option economically or ecologically, which means that in great many cases a personal car is the better alternative. Currently, Finns drive old cars many of which are not equipped with catalysts, so they're spewing out all sorts of undesireable gases and what not.

To sum up:
New nuclear plant = best alternative
Cheaper new cars = best alternative

If you have better ideas, let's hear them.

Well I've heard that Finland supplies windmills and many pars to them to the central europe.
so is it not viable enrgy alternative here?
I'm sorry if being rude ,course i'm not sure if you have good conditions here for windenergy. ..but it seems so at least in the coast :)
Germany struggles with hard economic problems ,but still germany supports wind energy.. maybe it's not good here then? In germany and poland nuclear energy is just regarded as old form of energy production.. so it suprises me here.. that's why my comment on that.
Well i'm a bit punk yeah.
I can't get it why western nations put so much money to military and violence machines,
as they wouldn't have any problem with energy - and thatway with other nations - if the billions of euros and dollars was putten on alternative energy! .....it's just ridiculas if you think.

Well back to *only* finnish subjects:
Yeah finland is big coutry and cars are useful, but
the idea of getting newer cars as solution for greenhousegas emissions stinks a bit.
Half of emissions that a car produces during it's "lifetime", is produced before the car has driven a single kilometer. really. so if whole world just supports buying newer cars - you know how much cars there is to be produced :/
Umm, I don't have any perfect single solution for the car problem if state-of-the-art publictransportation solutions ,like in many central european areas *really* is not an option here.
What i do see here at least in capital area,is
that public transport could do the most transportation here,if well organized.(?)
Do you mean that finnish public transport is too expensive in the country regions?

Because they are not a viable enery alternative anywhere. The experiences from e.g. Germany have been quite poor with windmills. They produce electricity very unreliably because you can't predict quite well whether wind will stop suddenly. When this does happen, as it has happened many times in German areas which rely too much on windmills due to POLITICAL reasons, they have to do emergency startups for other kinds of power plants to counter the sudden loss with electricity.

In the end, windmills do absolutely JACK SHIT helping with the environment, because powering up and shutting down the "supporting" (coal etc.) power plants is not energy efficient.

Windmills help saving the environment only in the pipedreams of environmentalist wackos who know absolutely nothing about power industry and the environment. Sad but true. You should buy a clue, real information is readily available out there.

    Äänestä

  • Umm,, finland and germany do produce about the same amount of electricity from nuclear plants i think.
However finland is the only western country to build new nuclear powerplant. (correct me if you know other coutry)
It's justreminds of new fair rules for the global fight for lower greenhousegas-emissions, that NP- isn't used.
it would be awful if every nation would choose it as solution. so there is like non-official agreement, that it is not used for our fight to lower worlds emissions.
If the renewables are more expensive(in a way but not in many other way),then electricity should be more expensive ofcourse.
It sure is good idea to get rid of russian import el. The coutrys that have the last oil and gas reserves, can act in moron way if buying nations are still hooked on oil and gas in the (near)future. Like when russia turned the gas pipes off just for a day. I think the message was understood in somewy or another in germany etc.
The buying coutries can only try to please the oil/gas leaders ,and ridiculous shit like that if not cutted their energy hookness early enough ,and bet on renewables. ... uranium is rare too.. ...and very polluting to mine and especially the flushing process of uranium wastes immense amount of water. Also what i've concluded of human violence and aggression,is that radioactive waste turn far too easily to weapons... ..human mind.. you can't(and better not) follow it.

WHAT and big help for a nation will it be if they can have cutted oil consumption before the prices will skyrocket.
DO hope that your leaders get that point clearly.
I just think that these most woted parties do not support public transportation at all strongly enough...
If I understood right they just put some green ideas on their agenda just before the elections?
    ...Doesn't sound very promising huh?
Yes I do hope too that i will be wrong on this one ...and you better too.

There are Finnish companies manufacturing wind turbines and new windmills are being built around Finland. However, there's a major problem with wind energy considering Finnish circumstances: In the winter, when it is cold, it is usually not windy at all, even on the coast. What that means is that the windmills are not producing any electricity at the times when the consumption is peaking, in fact the rotor blades need to be heated to prevent freezing, so they're actually consuming power instead of producing it just when it's needed the most.

In my opinion, the only real problem with nuclear energy is uranium mining.

    About cars:
What you say about the lifetime emissions is true, but as of now we have the oldest cars ( the oldest car "lifetime") in W. Europe so changing the taxation so that more people can afford new(er) cars is, in my opinion, justified.

What I think about public transportation is that it makes sense in big cities (we don't have many of those) and between them. If you tried to develop a public transport system that would, to any reasonable extent, serve the needs of those living in less densely populated areas, you'd end up with loads of buses driving up and down country roads with only a handful of passengers in them - which wouldn't make any sense whatsoever. Not only would it be more expensive but in many cases also more polluting than having those people drive their own cars.

As I see it, public transportation makes sense if you live in a city and don't have to haul lots of things (or kids, or animals) around. Modern cars are not as polluting as many people seem to think they are, and with things like hybrid technology the emission levels are going to keep going down.

What's wrong with them :D
They did go well on Helsinki area though.

  • The National Coalition is by no means a right-wing party. In fact the difference between the big three parties in Finland is not that great, they all seem to have the same goals but slightly different methods of achieving them.

The True Finns (Perussuomalaiset) party can be classified as right-wing, and I for one am extremely worried to see them gain places in the parliament.

As for the Greens, they're good at pointing out problems but not very good at coming up with viable solutions to them. As I see it, the Finns have always had a close relation to nature, with an appreciation of it and understanding that it has to be treated responsibly, which in turn is reflected in the policy of all political parties. Only those who have 'lost contact' with nature (city dwellers) are interested in voting for the Greens, not understanding that many of the 'problems' are not problems at all - they're issues people have been able to deal with for generations.

    Äänestä

  • The green party's problem is that the environmental issues are now almost in every parties agenga and not just under the elections. Only the left wing doesn't care about the environment.

Basically your statements are silly because Germany is light years away of Finland in developement.

The bigger problem for the green party is that it is full of "city greens" that can't be taken seriously. Their smartest guy, Osmo, retired and now they have only one intelligent person in the party, Heidi Hautala. The greens have made so many people unempolyed in the countryside it is ridiculous. They are hated for a good reason outside the cities.

The car issue... You just need more IQ to understand. The same with nuclear. Find the information yourself from many sources. Not just "activist" sources.

I voted for greens but I am really disappointed with their candidates. They really should starts being less religious hippies and talk about real issues. The environment is a serious issue!

These people who cannot even write in English are attacking towards everyone who has a different opinion than their own - I don't want to say my English would be any better, but at least I know the meaning of the concepts tolerance and good manners.

I'm a bit worried about the situation in Finland too. It's no wonder if things go wrong with so many citizens with shit for brains... Ok, that was probably rude...

    Well, let's see what happens.

    - I have no idea what you mean by 'pollution of finnish waters and fishes'? There's very little ongoing water pollution in Finland, and most of that comes from agriculture.
    - Uranium mining is a problem, but it's less of a problem than those caused by other methods of electricity production.
    - Storing nuclear waste is not a problem, it's an issue. An issue that Finland is dealing with, I might add.
    - Greenhouse gases? Cue nuclear power. (I wouldn't say they're 'exploded', mind you...) You might also be interested to know that Finns are one of the few nations who actually produce less greenhouse gases than is absorbed by the vegetation in the country...
-Asthma? Caused by what? Emissions from (non-nuclear) power plants and old cars perhaps?

What I meant with my comment was that many Finns still consider themselves as a part of the surrounding nature and ecosystem rather than something completely separate from it, like the city greenies seem to do. They have a respect nature, knowing that people's livelihood depends on it, but they don't see it as inviolable as many protectionists do. I find that many city kids who are into 'protecting' nature have very little actual knowledge of it, like that one person who said that cows should be allowed to roam free and build their own nests... an extreme example, I know, but still...
