How the Prophets** Prayed
Prayer is the central link between man and his Creator. All the Prophets* were sent by God for the single purpose of guiding thepeople to one straight path. In order to teach the people, the Prophets* set personal example in righteous conduct. They practised the divine instructions with great care, and asked others to do the same. Prayer being an act showing submission and subservience to God was given great attention by all the Prophets*. All of them seem to have followed a similar mode in prayer.
On the authority of Old and Nw Testaments, the quotations listed below show the way the prophets* used to pray:
ABRAHAM**
``And Abraham fell on his face....´´ (Genesis 17:3)
JOSHUA**
``And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and did worship, ....´´ (Joshua 5:14)
MOSES AND AARON**
``And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.
And they fell upon their faces and said, O God...´´ (Numbers 16:20-22)
JESUS**
Jesus** came to fulfill the law of Moses** which was at that time being flouted by the disobedient People. On this account the following verses say:
``Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy it but to fulfill.´´ (Matthew 5:17)
In prayers Jesus** followed the same pattern as the Prophets* before him. According to the Scriptures:
``And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as You will,´´ (Matthew 26:39)
In another verse:
``And he forward a little, and fellon the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.´´ (Mark 14:35)
Dear Reader: Just ponder for a moment!
-Have you eer seen Christian praying in the way as given in the Testaments?
-Have you heard about this method of prayer before?
-Why don't the churches practise the method of prayer that All the Prophets** prayed?
-Did the Prophets** play music in the temple or use the bells to call people to the prayer?
Jesus** did not break the law, and was very careful to practice what Moses** before him practised.
