Immediately before the fall of East Germany in 1989, the Stasi employed 91,000 staff members. Their active informer network included nearly 200,000 people.

More Stasi secrets to be revealed
The German office in charge of the Stasi archives is to release files on 16 former West German politicians.
Another one is reportedly that of the former conservative premier of Bavaria, Franz Josef Strauss.

Cederberg's book does not name any suspected spies, but indicates that some of them were journalists. In Finland, where the government and security police are under pressure to reveal information about Finnish Stasi informers, there has been speculation that
senior politicians were among those implicated.

As revealed by newly decoded files in Berlin, a Stasi spy "worked at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) for at least six years during the 1980s, coming into contact with Margaret Thatcher,

[T]he complete original files from East Germany's foreign spy operations,
including the true identities of its thousands of agents,... are in the

Sources, requesting anonymity, said the files were obtained after the fall of East Germany's
communist government. They had been removed from Stasi offices in Berlin well before the Berlin

Vanhimmat
Mistä tiedät lisäksi mitä pressa on sanonut kulissien takana?
Stalinisteista ja hengenheimolaisistaan:
