[geocentrism] Coriolis effect?

Dear Dr. Jones:
Jack's article mentioned "Coriolis effect". I'd like to get your take on
this effect. It seems to me that the "single nature" of the atmosphere that
I have put forward, ie., that it's a gas only, is not diminished in any way.
I do think that proponents of saying the Coriolis effect affects the air
show their "dual nature" view of the air. To me it is most interesting that
in Jack's snippet it is admitted that a north/south feature of the wind
currents does exist. That is enticingly and most definitely in accord with
the Bible. Now here's the rub for the Coriolis wind proponents: if the
wind is offset by the Coriolis effect as you say, which is itself due to the
steady rotation of the earth, why would the wind not be steadily offset?
Why would it "whirleth about continually" according to the Bible, and our
own verifiable experience?
My own knowledge of the Coriolis effect comes mainly from Marshall Hall's
book, "The Earth is Not Moving" (which I recommend to everyone). I go into
it below for those who haven't read it.
There Mr. Hall goes into some length about this Coriolis effect. On page
162 he quotes from the Smithsonian magazine. "...but if you watched the
projectiles from a space station, they would appear to travel in an
absolutely straight line...." (both ellipses in Hall's original) And my
take on that statement is that it contradicts the whole notion of a Coriolis
motion which is supposed to occur, but apparently does not, or is so
negligible as to nearly be so. According to the Smithsonian article, "The
Coriolis force is about 30 million times weaker than the force of gravity at
middle latitudes...." [ellipses original] Hall asks, If this is so, how
could this "force" be so weak and yet be any factor on anything?
Hall himself further states on page 162,
"Who can calculate the millions of miles aircraft have flown before there
were computerized guidance systems, navigating from maps and charts with no
thought of mythical ever-varying rotational speeds below them? Lindbergh
would never have made it and neither would anyone else if they had to
navigate on the basis of the Coriolis Effect."
Hall further goes on to tell us that the Coriolis effect only applies on
longitudinal lines, not in east-west directions. He gives the example of
the Big Bertha guns used by the Germans on Paris in WWI. Did the Germans,
dummies that they are known to be, bother to take into account any "Coriolis
effect"? According to Hall, "...they knew it wasn't a factor." This, even
though Paris should have moved a mile rotationally in the 3 minutes before
the big gunshots reached their target.
Hall further yet adds an encyclopedia reference that says
"On the Earth...an object that moves along a north-south path...will undergo
apparent deflection to the right in the Northern Hemisphere, and to the the
left in the Southern Hemisphere.....Thus, if a cannon were fired northward
from a point on the Equator, the projectile would land to the east of its
due north path. This variation would occur because the projectile was
moving eastward faster at the Equator than was its target farther
north....The Coriolis deflection is therefore related to the motion of the
object, the motion of the Earth, and the latitude."
Hall's challenge to "...let a missile be fired longitudinally where a
geostationary satellite can track it and watch that rascal go straight to
its destination..." is interesting. "Do it; we dare ya!" he says.
But, I think that when a plane flies to the south or north, it would prove
the same point. I believe it would encounter the same turn-of-the-earth
problems and explanation as to why the atmosphere negates any relative
motion factors as with the east-west flights. In any case, would not every
north-south plane flight illustrate Hall's missile proposal?
I was talking to a pilot instructor the other day because I wanted to be up
to speed with Rob on a point about flying he made. The instructor didn't
know why I was asking him questions and indeed it must have sounded pretty
weird. Anyway, in that conversation the pilot did tell me that it does not
matter which direction a plane flies. No special corrections need to be
taken into account just because a plane is flying north to south. I asked
him that in particular because I was thinking about this Coriolis effect.
However, I failed to ask him point blank if the Coriolis effect ever entered
into his flight plans.
