According to my spell check (Am. English) both ways are accepted. Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary does not list 'zookeeper' as a compound word.

I consider my answers to be suggestions that I try to base on facts or personal experience, depending on the subject. If I'm guessing I will specify it.

In this case, when questioned, I wanted to back up my choice of spelling with facts instead of claiming that 'it just looks right based on my almost 30 years of experience in an English speaking country'. Make no mistake that I am very well aware that English is not my first language but I do manage pretty well.

Of course spellcheck accepts it... "Zoo" and "keeper" are their own words. Check a dictionary.

It seems both are indeed acceptable.

You apparently only read the first sentence of my answer. If you read also the second one you'd realize that I did check the dictionary as well.

to the general way about doing things in this forum, and the fact that it's slightly odd to ask complete strangers for such answers in a public forum. And it's always nice to see someone "managing pretty well", especially in these days when stupidity is a standard.

Animal attendant -käännöstä käytetään ainakin Ylä-Savon ammattiopiston sivuilla.

No ei todellakaan ole. Briteissa on veterinary nurse. Elaintarhassa tietty zoo keeper (ei yhdyssanana yleisempi).
