Hello everybody
I want to take this opportunity to post a call for a photographic documentary piece. I am looking for people who are comfortable with telling their story about their depression. Visualized with photos and interviews it will be a body of work about experiencing life with a depression and what contributes to the tendency of these emotions within the Finnish culture. The reason why I am doing this is because I stand very close to the subject. I befriended a Finnish girl who I shared her depression ups and downs with. Also on a personal level I can relate. I am a photographer based in London and Dutch from origin I most of the time do documentary work on my own terms.
I want to show the different kinds of stages and forms of a depression and how people are dealing with this in everyday life. This means I am doing this project out of my own and maybe your perspective, I have no commercial intentions or a boss screaming at me what to do.
I already am in contact with several people who are either over their depression or are in the middle their diagnosis. I am focusing on people between the ages of 15- 28. The level of exposure is completely up to the ones who are contributing to the story. You can do this in anonymity or tell whatever it is you want to put out in the open. So don’t have any doubts of contacting me if you have some conditions under which you want to participate.

What if I don't want to show my face and name?
That is completely fine!
Don't you think that people have enough to worry about? I am not saying it is not a good idea but I think a lot of people are too much struggling to put their story out there. These conversation can be
difficult to deal with. But I guess the people here are already telling their story to others the step to tell it face to face may not be that hard as I think.
I have suffered from depression for a long time now and it took me a long time to tell my friends and co-workers. I am over my 40ties I think that in this life stage it is harder to speak about it. I notice that the younger generation are by far more acceptance and more open to this subject. I feel the taboo is fading, but we still have a long way to go. I think projects like these will help to confront this taboo and speak about it openly.
