Suomen rikoslain 11 luvun 6 §:ssä (21.4.1995/578) säädetään:
Joukkotuhonta
Joka jonkin kansallisen, rodullisen, etnisen tai uskonnollisen ryhmän taikka niihin rinnastettavan kansanryhmän hävittämiseksi kokonaan tai osittain
1) surmaa ryhmän jäseniä,
2) aiheuttaa ryhmän jäsenille vaikeita ruumiillisia tai henkisiä sairauksia tai vammoja,
3) ryhtyy pakkotoimiin syntyvyyden ehkäisemiseksi ryhmän piirissä,
4) pakolla siirtää lapsia ryhmästä toiseen tai
5) muulla vastaavalla tavalla olennaisesti huonontaa ryhmän elinehtoja,
on tuomittava joukkotuhonnasta vankeuteen vähintään neljäksi vuodeksi tai elinkaudeksi.
Yritys on rangaistava."
