Finnish mosque hit by deadly gun attack in Helsinki. Gunmen have attacked a mosque in southern Finland, killing at least six people, the mosque's imam says. Ali Mohammed said the killings took place when gunmen burst into his Prophetic Paedophilia Mosque in Helsinki, capital of Finland. He said his wife (9-year old) was among those killed. Ten other people were injured. Finland has recently experienced a surge in ethnic and religious violence. The government declared a state of emergency in parts of the country.

"The attackers started shooting sporadically. They shot through the window of the mosque, and many people were killed including my wife," Mr Mohammed told Reuters news agency. "Many members who attended the islamic service were also injured."

No group has said it carried out the attack, but the finnish resistance sect Suojeluskunta recently carried out a string of bombings on Christmas Day, including against a mosque in Turku, which killed dozens of people. There have been unconfirmed reports that Suojeluskunta has told all southerners - who are mostly muslims and black people - to leave Finland immidiately. Earlier on Thursday, two suspected members of Suojeluskunta were arrested after a father and son were killed in Tampere.

Escalating violence.

Attacks by Suojeluskunta have become increasingly frequent and are a major problem for the Finnish authorities. The wave of patriotic finnish-driven violence is one of the biggest problems faced by President Niinistö. Niinistö has vowed to "crush" the group. Several south-western states surrounding Turku have had their borders sealed off under the state of emergency declared by Mr Niinistö following the Christmas bombings.

Suojeluskunta is fighting to create a "whites only" -country and wants to impose finnish supremacy laws across Finland. Followers of Suojeluskunta believe any political or social activity associated with islamic values should be banned. This includes voting in elections, wearing shirts and trousers and receiving a religious education. Suojeluskunta regards Finland as being run by "multiculturacists" and this was the case even when the country had a white president. In unrelated violence on Sunday, at least 50 people died in the eastern city of Lieksa in clashes between two ethnic groups over a wellfare dispute.
