Kalevala kertoo ajasta noin 3000 ekr aina vuoteen 1200 jkr, eli aika monta sukupolvea ja ehkä useampi kansa tai heimo, kuin nyt osaamme edes olettaa, kyse on kumminkin yli 4000 vuoden jaksosta.

Rurikin DNA on tutkittu, niiden jälkeläisten perusteellla mitkä varmuudella tiedetään Rurikin jälkeläisiksi, nämähän löytyy mm. aateliskalentereista.
Yllättävää on se, että isänlinja on sama kuin on noin 75 %:lla varsinais-suomen väestöstä, DNA:n perusteella Rurikin esivanhemmat isänpuolelta on kotoisin varsinais-suomesta.
Tämä linja on muuten hyvin harvinainen Venäjällä.
