I can say with assent with confidence, Speaking of myself, is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. I'm Johan from South Korea born Canada. I lived for 7 years in Canada. and this is a real name. am just vacationist, not an migrant. I was in Lapland for vacation for 3 months last summer. (Visit to Finland once every year) nowadays Refugees in Finland could see more often than last years. Especially, Somalia-born and the Middle East-born people there was teeming. I think it estimates over 30,000 and 40,000 people or more. The refugees came to Finland were desperate for safe. Also, now Fully half of refuges became a Finnish citizen. human rights, including freedom of speech, are now guaranteed. This is unimaginable in South Korea. and Japan. two countries has previously rejected to accept refugees because have a bad influence for a long time. These countries, Owing to UN's pressure, started to accepted since 2001. So South Korea has at least 192 refugees (mostly Pakistan, Nepal, Myanmar, Africa). Also, Japan has 1100 refugees(same like Korea). Foreigner in South Korea lives 1.4 million(2.8%), Japan lives 2.3 million. two has quite small by comparison with Europe. Especially, being refugees aren't easy to live in South Korea. they can't get for a job. haven't a social security system. by the way, Two is the only countries in the world that could not exercise Jews, Chinese leverage. but, Japan existent china town, not in South Korea. two had been a closed nationalism, society to foreigner for ages long. had been showed an adverse reaction to African, Mideast except Europe. North Korea insist to preserve pure blood. now japan is too, want to remain only one at Japanese policy. I also was educated at school in historic time in 2002 in South Korea. it was brainwashed. :( I believed so much! now. I am still at a loss for words. in 2009, the words "Pure blood, single nation" was in textbook removed now In a lot of controversy. UN advised us to remove the words. yeah. South Korea and Japan, to tell the truth, don't like African, other ethnic race. only white like by them. media, advertisement, movie made them to White supremacists. :( this being so, is difficulty to accept and embrace ethnic group. But, Multicultural is an ineluctable destiny because we are at the twenty-first century now.

I really wish I could travel to south-korea one day to work as a volunteer but issues you Johan mentioned above are in a way holding me back. I'm a native Finn and very concerned about the possible discrimination I could face in Asian countries.
Native Finns can gain status in Asian countries. It just takes a lot of work, a lot of time, some luck, and the right attitude.

If you want to volunteer I'd suggest this: Study language. Study culture and customs. Get aquainted with people from the couuntry of interest here in Finland. They might have a cultural society etc. Be active. The language is going to be the greatest hurdle. Without a lot of work you are completely illiterate when travelling in Asia.
