Jehova-nimi on väärä

On lähinnä Jahve:

"At the Yankee Stadium, when giving his speech introducing the New World Translation, the Society’s president said: “But, while recognizing the merits of the pronunciation ‘Yah·weh´’, the translation committee has used the form ‘Jehovah’ because of its familiarity and because it preserves the four original letters of the Hebrew name. In God’s own time when He reveals the correct pronunciation of his holy name, we will gladly make the accurate correction.”—See The Watchtower, September 15, 1950, page 317 . (w50 Dec. 1 p. 474)

"The Bible was written in Hebrew, Aramaic and common Greek originally; and in the Hebrew Scriptures the divine name is written as a Tetragrammaton or four Hebrew consonants, which correspond, in Latin, with JHVH, and in English, with YHWH. For centuries the name has been pronounced “Jehovah”, but within the last century Bible scholars have preferred the pronunciation “Yahweh” as more correct...........If in the Revised Standard Version they had chosen to use the form of the name “Yahweh” instead of “Jehovah”, there would have been no room for criticism. We ourselves think the form “Yahweh” is nearer the true pronunciation." (w53 Sept. 1 p. 529-532)

"Inserting the vowels of Jabe [the Samaritan pronunciation] into the original Hebrew consonant text, we obtain the form Jahveh (Yahweh), which has been generally accepted by modern scholars as the true pronunciation of the Divine name.” The New World Bible Translation Committee stated: “While inclining to view the pronunciation ‘Yah·weh´” as the more correct way, we have retained the form ‘Jehovah’ because of people’s familiarity with it since the 14th century. Moreover, it preserves, equally with other forms, the four letters of the tetragrammaton JHVH.” (w60 Aug. 1 p. 455)

Joten tarvitaanko muuta???

[lainaus] "The first recorded use of this
[lainaus] form [Jehovah] dates from the
[lainaus] 13th century C.E. [after Christ].
[lainaus] Raymundus Martini, a Spanish monk
[lainaus] of the Dominican order, used it
[lainaus] in his book Pugeo Fidei of the
[lainaus] year 1270. Hebrew scholars
[lainaus] generally favor Yahweh as the
[lainaus] most likely pronunciation"
[lainaus] (Aid to Bible
[lainaus] Understanding, 1971, sivu
[lainaus] 884-885, Jehovah-hakusana)

Tästä Vartiotorniseuran hallintoelimen julkaisusta on valokopio otsikossa "3.3 Jehova - tiedätkö sinä miten tärkeää on tuntea Jumalan persoonanimi?" sivulla

http://raamattu.cant.net/jt-esittely

Hallintoelimen julkaisema "uusi valo", Insight of the Scriptures teokset 1-2, ovat sopivasti jättäneet tämän pois uudesta painoksesta (teos 2, sivu 7, Jehova-hakusana). Lukijalle ei ilmeisesti enää haluta kertoa miten sana Jehova tuli kirkkoisien käyttämän latinan kautta yleisempään käyttöön.

Mainittakoon että Jehova-sana ei tarkoita mitään hepreaksi. Sen sijaan Yahweh-sana tarkoittaa.

"I was very interested to read the copy of your work you sent me (...). As a student in the 50's, I was told that scholars hard determined that 'Yahweh' was the ancient pronunciation. I did not find the argument well-grounded, but the view was held almost as an article of faith by my instructors, and I had no superior argument, so I ignored the problem. I have occasionally thought about it since, but I have not acquired any information that you have not noticed in your study. You have certainly collected more information on the question than any other study I know, and you are to be congratulated on the production of a valuable work. Many thanks for sending it to me."
