According to foreign news dispatches, Hiroshima, contaminated by radioactivity, would be barren for the next 70 years and no one would be able to live there. However, finding green weeds starting to grow again, hibakusha (A-bomb survivors) were given new hope for life.
Around the middle of September, elementary school children who had been evacuated returned to the city and schools were reopened in the burnt-out shells of ferroconcrete buildings.

In 1995, 50 years after the atomic bombings, approximately 50 percent of the survivors were still alive. The exact number is difficult to state, but it could exceed 100,000. (For example, 284,000 survivors were identified in the 1950 census; this would indicate that there were about 142,000 remaining survivors in 1995.)
No genetic effects have been detected in a large sample (nearly 80,000) of offspring. By this, we mean that there is no detectable radiation-related increase in congenital abnormalities, mortality (including childhood cancers), chromosome aberrations, or mutations in biochemically identifiable genes.

tietoa.
Pienimäärä säteilyä on terveydelle hyväksi. Se on todettu erittäin laajassa tutkimuksessa USAssa.

Many people are confused (as I was 12 years ago) by the term "radiation hormesis." It basically means radiation benefits. It would be appropriate to refer to iodine hormesis, iron hormesis, cobalt hormesis, etc., because all essential trace elements are hormetic. That is, they are all poisonous in moderate-to-large quantities but beneficial in small quantities. There are two books about radiation hormesis by T. D. Luckey, published by CRC Press, which have over a thousand references to radiation hormesis in plants and animals dating back to before 1900. The best epidemiological study to support radiation benefits has not been officially published. In 1980 the US Department of Energy (DOE) awarded a contract to the School of Public Health of Johns Hopkins University to study the health effects of radiation to nuclear shipyard workers. This study from 1980 to 1988 analyzed the 28,000 nuclear shipyard workers with the largest cumulative doses. They were compared to 32,500 shipyard workers with the same ages and same jobs. That is, it was an ideal study of radiation effects, as the only essential difference between the nuclear workers and the controls was their occupational radiation exposure. The DOE contract provided for a Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) of eight scientists who were experts in the areas covered by the research. I was a member of TAP because of my background in measuring radiation. In 1988 the final report on the Nuclear Shipyard Worker Study (NSWS) was approved by TAP. It was submitted to DOE in the fall of 1991 (Matanoski G., Health Effects of Low-Level Radiation in Shipyard Workers Final Report, 471 pp, Baltimore, MD, DOE DE-AC02-79 EV10095, 1991). The summary of this report states that the nuclear workers did not suffer any obvious harm from radiation. Their deaths from all cancer was significantly lower than the controls (p< 0.001). Their death rate from all causes was 24% lower than the unexposed controls or 16 standard deviations lower. I published a short summary of the NSWS results in 1992 (Cameron, J.R., "The Good News about Low Level Radiation Exposure," Health Physics Society Newsletter, February, pp 9-11, 1992). There is evidence that moderate doses of radiation stimulate the immune system. L. E. Feinendegen, Victor P. Bond, and Charles A. Sondhaus in "Can Low Level Radiation Protect Against Cancer?" (Physics and Society 27:4-6, 1998) mention this as one of several factors which protect against cancer. Ever since the AIDS crisis started, it has been clear that an impaired immune system increases cancer risk. It is logical to assume that if radiation stimulates the immune system, it would reduce deaths from cancer as well as death from other causes. Another little-known human study shows results similar to the NSWS. Smith P.G., and Doll R., in "Mortality From All Causes Among British Radiologists" (Br. J Radiol, 54:187-194, 1981), describe the beneficial effects of radiation on British radiologists who entered the field after 1920. (A summary of the data will appear in my Letter to the Editor, Health Physics, September 2001, in response to a critique of radiation hormesis by Ken Mossman.) There is no doubt that a lot of radiation increases the risk of cancer.

Kysymyksesi ehtona on edelleen JOS.
Vai... mitä?
"Kysymyksesi ehtona on edelleen JOS."
Kysymykseni?

Muutenhan olisit varmaankin kertonut jotain Hiroshimasta...
miksi mä vastailen tämmösiin älyttömyyksiin? tämäkin on kai jo 10004 viestini.
BRAVO! OLET ALITTANUT KAIKKI AIKAISEMMAT JOSSITTELIJAT!

En huomannut, että jossittelija vaihtu. odotan edelleen vastausta alkuperäiseltä jossittelijalta.
"BRAVO! OLET ALITTANUT KAIKKI AIKAISEMMAT JOSSITTELIJAT!"
Huomaatko noissa pätkissä toistuu tuommoinen ihmeellinen koukero.
"jos en vastaa, ehdotuksesi on paikkansa pitävä."
Päättele mitä tahdot.Anteeksi että olen olemassa.

Kysymyksesi
"Muutenhan olisit varmaankin kertonut jotain Hiroshimasta..."
Oletko muuten koskaan kuullut provosoinnista?
