For the Audi Chairman Dr. Martin Winterkorn, the Q7 is the coupé behind the off-road vehicle. In terms of its dimensions - with a length of 5.09 metres, for example, this SUV from Audi is 33 centimetres longer than a VW Touareg - the Q7 at the same time boasts an imposing presence on the road.
The new model is equipped with a raft of high-tech components which ensure that it offers the driving dynamics of a sports car and good off-road capabilities at the same time. Examples of these components are the independent suspension with double wishbones and aluminium elements and the optional air suspension with variable ground clearance.
Power is distributed as standard by the quattro drive system in a ratio of 60:40 with the majority going to the rear wheels, the same as for the new RS 4. Together with the almost equalised axle-load distribution, this ensures high agility and minimises feedback from the drivetrain at the steering.
In case of an impending collision, the Q7 is equipped with a technology of the future. The collision warning system is an element of the latest generation of radar-assisted distance control systems, featuring sensors with a range of up to 180 metres. If an accident with the vehicle in front is imminent, the system gives a warning in two stages. First the driver is provided with a visual and acoustic warning as to the dangerous situation, and then a warning jolt is triggered via the networked brake system.
