... näyttää perustuneen väärennettyihin tiedustelutietoihin. Tästähän onkin suora jatkumo Irakin sodan perusteluihin, joista osa pohjautui niin ikään väärennettyihin tiedustelutietoihin.
Spy agency faked key Vietnam War data

One of America's spy agencies faked key intelligence used to justify its intervention in the Vietnam War, it was disclosed yesterday.
But the revelation was kept secret by the National Security Agency, partly because of fears that it would boost criticism of the intelligence services over the war in Iraq.
According to material uncovered by the NSA's own historian, Robert Hanyok, middle-ranking officers altered material relating to the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

Tässäpä asiasta jo aiemmin paljastettua:
NY Times - 11/6/01] WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 ‹ A new book examining secret tapes President Lyndon B. Johnson made in the early days of the Vietnam War show that only weeks after Congress gave him the authority to pursue the war in 1964, he privately acknowledged that the incident that inspired the resolution probably never happened.
"When we got through with all the firing," Johnson said ruefully to his secretary of defense, Robert S. McNamara, "we concluded maybe they hadn't fired at all."
Johnson was referring to the purorted attacks by North Vietnamese torpedo boats on two United States destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin. In fact, the judgment of history is that the attack ‹ which through the subsequent Gulf of Tonkin resolution provided the basis for American escalation of the war throughout the rest of Johnson's presidency ‹ was a false alarm.

Minä kun olen aina luullut, että USA meni lopettamaan ranskalaisten aloittamaa sotaa. USa jäi sinne yksin, kun eurooppalainen sivistysvaltio keräs kassinsa ja luikki kotiin.
Olet sitten luullut harvinaisen ihmeellisesti. Käy nyt vaikka lukemassa Wikipediaa jollet muuta lähdettä löydä.
