Tietoisku Shapiroista

Robert Shapiro:
http://www.robertshapiro.org/index.htm
emeritus professor of chemistry at New York University
agnostikko (sanoo itse), self-proclaimed atheist (sanoo Hugh Ross),
Michael Behen kirjan suosituskirjoituksen kirjoittaja
“Life Beyond Earth”, co-author with Gerald Feinberg, (Morrow 1980).
“Origins, a Skeptic’s Guide to the Creation of Life on Earth”, (Simon & Schuster, 1986)
“The Human Blueprint”, (St. Martin’s Press, 1991, Science Book of the Year).
“Planetary Dreams”, (Wiley, 1999).

Se mielestäni tärkeämpi Shapiro (jota P.S.V. on tuonut esiin) on
James A. Shapiro
http://shapiro.bsd.uchicago.edu/index.html
Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Chicago

The biological community has no detailed, testable proposals for how irreducibly complex systems might have arisen by Darwinian means but only a variety of wishful speculations, a fact admitted by biologists like James Shapiro and Franklin Harold, who have no “creationist” or “intelligent design” agenda.

erityisesti sen päätösluku
A 21ST CENTURY VIEW OF GENOME REFORMATTING IN EVOLUTION.
Siinä Shapiro sanoo: “One philosophical question that has proved extraordinarily contentious concerns the respective roles of design and chance in evolution. This topic is so heated because it touches on fundamental differences between materialistic assumptions and religious faith. However, I argue that molecular discoveries about cellular information processing, epigenetic modifications of the genome, and natural genetic engineering place this issue in a new naturalistic perspective”
Kelpaisiko tämä “kolmas tie” kummallekin nykyisistä pukareista, vai saammeko kolmiodraaman?
Pari vuotta sitten Leisola yritti pitää evo/krea-aiheisen seminaarin, jolle ei löytynyt paikkaa.
Muistaakseni erääksi luennoijaksi piti tulla joku Shapiro. Muistaako kukaan oliko se jompikumpi yllämainituista?

Tärkein linkki ei toiminut oikein. Uusi yritys
Siis se Shapiron tärkeä teksti löytyy www-sivulta
http://shapiro.bsd.uchicago.edu/index3.html?content=pub lications.html
ja siellä klikkaa julkaisulistan kuudenneksi viimeistä artikkelia:
Shapiro, J.A. 2002. Genome Organization and Reorganization in Evolution: Formatting for Computation and Function. In From Epigenesis to Epigenetics: The Genome in Context, L.Van Speybroack, G. Van de Vijver, and D. de Waele (eds.), Ann. NY Acad Sci 981, 111-134

Kiitos kolmannesta linkistä, josta asia selvisi (kunhan jaksoi kahlata Pauli Ojalan ohi).
Shapiro, J.A. & R. v. Sternberg. Repetitive DNA is essential for genome function. Biol. Rev., in press. (kertoo Leisola). Artikkeli on julkaistu myöhemmin: James A. Shapiro and Richard von Sternberg (2005) “Why repetitive DNA is essential to genome function” Biological Reviews 80: 227-250)
