"Simply awesome. It's the only way to describe
the new Ferrari F60 – the car that aims to bring
the true Formula One experience to the road.
And awesome is also a good adjective for the spy
pictures of the incredible secret supercar in
this week's Auto Express magazine. Caught on
camera for the first time by our eagle-eyed
photographers, the car is said by company
insiders to be the fastest, most technologically
advanced Ferrari ever. It will be powered by a
6.0-litre V12 engine developing an impressive
650bhp, and feature a seven-speed sequential
gearbox. That combination will push the F60
beyond 230mph, with the 0-60mph sprint completed
in an electrifying three seconds.
Previous spy shots of the F40 and F50 successor
showed the newcomer as a Ferrari 'parts bin
special', assembled from panels of cars long
since gone. But the exclusive pictures in the mag
reveal what insiders say is the real McCoy.
At the front, the spoiler traces a silhouette of
the Ferrari F1 car's nose and front wing, while
enormous air intakes and arrow-like bonnet
detailing mirror the design of many of today's
GT1 Le Mans racers. However, while the disguised
car's appearance would suggest the F60 will be a
sleek-looking machine, that is not the case, say
insiders. They insist that this will be the most
aggressively styled vehicle to wear the
illustrious Ferrari badge yet.
Gullwing doors cut into the roof, while, along
the side, huge air intakes cool the engine and
brakes. The rear windscreen features a series of
vents not unlike those cut into the F40 and F50,
and the bodywork rises from the back to support
an as yet unfitted rear wing. Our spies tell us
the spoiler will be fully adjustable, allowing
owners to tune the handling to their own taste.
Hidden under the prancing horse's black skin is a
complex aerodynamic undertray designed to keep
the car welded to the road at high speed.
Evidence of just how extreme this feature is lies
with the enormous venturi tunnels visible in the
rear view pictures of the F60. Prices have yet to
be revealed by Ferrari but, given that the
astonishing F50 cost an eye-watering £329,000 in
1996, potential owners would be unwise to expect
change from anything less than £350,000."
