John Lennon tuotannosta saa paremman käsityksen, kun ottaa esimerkkejä hänen soolotuotannostaan. Beatles-aika oli Beatles-aikaa ja aika moni näistä biiseistä vaatii kyllä ihan oikeasti tulkinnan, ettei niitä tulkita, kuten Hey Jude (Hey Jew) on väännetty joskus.

Imagine on kyllä ehdottomasti koko Lennon-tuotannon puhuttelevin ja haastavin biisi.

Tässä kuitenkin jonon jatkoksi vielä yksi, ei niin mitätön Lennon-biisi:

Miksi en olisi ottanut - kappalehan on äärimmäisen kaunis. Toisaalta, en tiennyt McCartneyn laulavan äidistään. En ole mitenkään syvällisesti perehtynyt tämän musiikin teoriapuoleen - kenelle mikäkin laulu on loppujen lopuksi osoitettu - kuuntelen vain sujuvasti. Olin tähän asti siinä luulossa että "Mother Mary" edustaa samaa hahmoa kuin esim. "Herramme Äiti Maria" J.Löytyn saman nimisessä kappaleessa. Enkä sitä paitsi usko, etteikö kuulijalla olisi oikeutta tulkita kuulemiaan kappaleita omalla tavallaan.

Lennon ja McCartney ovat tehneet lukemattomia todella onnistuneita kappaleita. Se on ikävää että myös erittäin lahjakas Harrison on jäänyt vähemmälle huomiolle.

Nimenomaan tulkinta on aina ihmisellä itsellään. Se on tietysti hieman harmillista, jos jotain biisiä tulkitaan esimerkiksi natsiaatteen mukaiseksi. Yhtälailla näitä biisejä on tulkittu kristillisiksi, vaikka biisi kertoo vain raadollisesta elämästä tai Paulin uniin tulleesta, jo edesmenneestä äidistä, kuten tuo Let It Be. Paulin äidin nimi siis oli Mary ja on loogista, jos hän kirjoittaa 'mother Mary'.

George Harrisonhan ei ollut millään tavalla sivuutettu, mutta Beatlesin aikana Lennon ja McCartney parivaljakko oli siinä määrin dominoiva, että vaikea sieltä olisi ollut tulla esiin. Harrisonin soolotuotanto on kuitenkin jokseenkin mittava ja hänellä oli hieno ura myös elokuvien parissa. Harrisonista täytyy kuitenkin sanoa, että sanoittajana tästä kolmikosta Lennon taisi olla paras. McCartney on kuitenkin yksi koko musiikkihistorian menestyneimpiä ellei menestynein lauluntekijä, ohittaa siinä Lennonin mennentullen.

Huomioitavaa on myös se, että jos Lennon tai Harrison puhuu Herrasta, niin heidän molempien lauluissa toistuu sana 'Krishna', joka viittaa vahvasti hindulaisuuteen. Paul McCartneyn biiseistä ei pahemmin tällaisia viittauksia Herroihin tai Rouviin löydy.
