I want to ask if a part time worker (minimum 5 hours a day and having hour-based salary - permanent job) are being paid for public holidays and sick leaves. I am a french citizen working in Finland in IT services sector. I was told by the employer that that i am not eligible for public holidays and i will be paid only for the hours i am working. Is it a normal thing here in Finland or do hourly-based part time workers get paid for public holidays and sick leaves. It would be great if someone answer to my questions and can guide me on legal situation.
Sorry for my bad englihs :)

I do not have a legal background but what I understand employers must follow same rules regardless of the nationality of the employee. You can probably get detailed information from the employment office of your city. Heres a link you could also check http://www.mol.fi/mol/en/03_labourlegislation/index.jsp
