Mielenkiintoisinta tässä Boris Nemtsovin murhassa on se, että jos hallitseva Venäjän eliitti olisi halunnut pelastaa uhrin, se olisi voinut tehdä niin. Merkittävien palkkamurhien tilaamisen ja organisoinnin sanotaan nykyään vaativan korkeimman johdon hyväksynnän. ”Turhien murhien” tekijöitä otetaan kiinni ja tilaajia rangaistaan. Murhan toteuttaminen Moskovan hyvin valvotussa keskustassa on siten myös symboli ja varoitus: älkää kuvitelkokkaan että kukaan olisi meiltä turvassa! Pettureille ja kiusankappaleille käy näin.
