“Oh, What A Feeling” – Toyota No. 1!
High-rolling Toyota is rolling higher than any foreign brand in the 100-year history of the U.S. auto industry. The Japanese brand outsold Ford and Chevrolet in new-car sales last month and, if the pace continues, will become No. 1 car seller on an ongoing basis for the first time since the Ford Model T went on sale in 1903.
In November, Toyota retailed 66,171 cars in the U.S. , eclipsing Ford’s 59,143 and Chevrolet’s 46,417. For the year to date, Toyota outnumbered Chevrolet, 774,951 to 682,658, while kept its overall lead with 801,607. Toyota trailed Ford by a slim 26,656 car margin in the January-November period -- and appears likely, says J.D. Power analyst Tom Libby, to seize the top spot “within a matter of months.” The car numbers exclude Toyota ’s Lexus luxury brand, as well as the truck category, which embraces SUVs, pickups and vans.
With trucks, of course, Ford and Chevrolet are way out in front. Ford is expected to sell about 3 million new units this year and Chevrolet close to 2.8 million. Toyota ’s total will reach an estimated 1.5 million, leaving the domestic brands far ahead for years to come because of trucks.
But losing the car championship the top two domestic brands have held for nearly 100 years – to an offshore brand – could be quite a blow as Ford prepares for its centennial celebration next summer. “Oh, What a Feeling!” is likely to have a very different meaning, depending on whether you are sitting in a corporate boardroom in Dearborn, MI, or Toyota City, Japan. – Mac Gordon

jotain tälläistä onkin jo tojotapalstalta odoteltukin...
Oliko sulla jotain asiaakin vai pelkkää ilmaa?
tossa ensimmäisessä viestissä jotain "asiaa"???
tuskinpa kukaan menee vaihtamaan autoansa toyotaan vaikka se olisi myydyin indokiinassa!
eikö toi teksti olisi ollut ihan hyvä pysyä vaan siellä tojopalstalla?
Kuvitteletko tälläisten tänne tuotujen tekstien tähtäävän Toyotan myynnin lisäämiseen? Oletko aivan tosissasi?
