‘Heaven’ is a pleasure principle. A track that conjures up heady nights in love’s grip, the song on that legendary summer holiday or perhaps the soundtrack to that suggestive look you got from the cutie on the other side of the street. The track lures you in with layers of synths and leads you into an easy to love, warm, sun-kissed harmony with lush acoustic guitars and even castanets. Well, after signing DJ Sammy in a £1 million deal, the president of Universal Germany flew Mariah Carey out to meet Sammy at his studio in Majorca – to get his advice on vocals and production for her new album.

The global success of ‘Heaven’, meanwhile, has been astonishing. The track has been so successful it’s made some parts of North America seem bizarrely reminiscent of DJ Sammy’s sun drenched home back in Majorca. It was there that he developed his distinct sound and the techno monster ‘The Judgement’, which became the unofficial anthem to Berlin’s 1999 Love Parade, and there that he saw European chart success as DJ Sammy feat.
