Though i dont speak much Finnish but i want to discuss something here and i hope it wont be a big problem as many of Finns do speak and understand English quite well.
It topic has been discussed a lot on other forums but I want to get some feed back and point of view of Finnish people. My question is very simple. What is more important for Finnish girls in a relationship and do looks really matter for them. I am a normal looking man and I had a kind of similar problem with a Finnish girl who just left me for a relatively good looking guy. If i compare myself with that guy, from a rational point of view and in a long term relation, he is not successful in his career and also very boring person. One of my friend who lived in finland for couple of years also told me a similar story. Is it only an individual act or a kind of general trend in Finland. I am asking this because I want to understand the nature of finnish people a bit more so that i wont make any stereotypes about the finnish society.

As you say the issue has already been discussed on many other forums, then why bother with repeat?
People are individuals and when people meet, either there is/or isn't chemistry between them, to most people looks just don't matter.
onhan se niin että ulkonäkö ei merkkaa paskaakaan suomiopportunistille jos vaan kaverilla on rahaa.
jos taas on köyhä, niin pitää olla joko ulkomaalainen (aivan sama mistä), tai sitten komea.
rahaa/muualta kotoisin = automaattisesti saa ahteria suomivosulta.
Väittämäsi ei ole totuus, koska se ei kata kaikkia meitä suomalaisia naisia ja se on vain sinun katkeran pääkoppasi tuotosta. Myöskään kaikki naiset eivät ole vosuja, ainoastaan kaltaisesi luuresin mielestä.

Iam Finnish girl for me looks dont matter i have hear alot story's abut us finnish girl's only what i can say all girl's and guy's are not same!for some people the looks mean much, for some money and for me matter's that that guy is caring and honest!have a nice weekend all!
was that other guy finnish? maybe she dumped you because of that? i was once with british dude and even i speak very good english it's kinda hard cause you can't express yourself perfectly. now i just can say only one word and finnish boyfriend understands me. and there's always some cultural distances too.
but cannot really say cause don't know you or that girl. or maybe she is just jerk..(?) what i appreciate in man is good humour, charm, kindness, cleverness. so it's not just about look.

Well, the other guy is also a foreigner and of same ethnic background and culture. Therefore it is not the situation in my case.

The way you described the girls who use this forum to get foreigner boyfriends was certainly a different thing. The girl in my case was good looking and sensible and was highly appreciated by most of the people . That is why i was surprised by this kind of behavior of her.

Yes it is true that this topic is discussed on many other forums, but i want to know the finnish point of view on this and i heard from my friends that this forum is most popular in Finland so thats why i asked it here.

I dont understand finnish but after a quick translation, i got the impression that its the money that matters. correct me if i am wrong. In my case, if i compare myself with that guy, the only advantage he has over me is his exotic looks. other than this there is no comparison because he doesnt even have any job or money and also not very social person at all, also quite boring.

Finnish ladies are very lucky they don't need to accept your type but can choose from many nice guys from abroad. We have no need to travel to the other side of the world to find spouse. That's what Finnish men have to do cause decent ladies nearby don't want them. With good looking man, charming personality, beautyful skin color etc we produce beautyful babies too. Have happy familylife and enjoy life to it's fullest.

I am a foreigner woman and I have only one thing say to you. If you live in Finland,move away from here while you can. This country makes every normal person crazy sooner or later. Finnish people are sick people. Maybe you dont see that now but soon you will.

I agree with you 100% and it may surprise you to hear that I'm a Finn (lived abroad more than 20yrs).
I'm also a Finn, but I agree 100 % too! But I've realized this, because I also live abroad. I've been here only 2 years, but still, here people are so much more normal and friendly...
I live also abroad and love it. I think it takes a long time to really understand the Finnihs mentality and probably to get to REALLY know Finns as a foreigner. But then again every country has it good and bad sites and we just have to deside which one is for us, don't we?
yeah I have already planned to leave Finland soon and I exactly have same feelings that if i will stay here any more i would probably have to consult a psychiatric every now and then :P This part of the land is little too cold for warm hearted people and i am sorry to say that.
You just do not see into the hearts of people. For example I am a very warm hearted person when at home with my family. But when I go out, I do not want to be familiar with strangers. I never even smile at strangers. I hate hugging other people than my family members and close friends but at home I love to receive and give hugs and kisses. So you do not see my heart. My partner who comes from the Middle East seems to like this quality of mine. Actually he thinks that I should be even less open and familiar with strangers.
I've noticed the same thing...before I went abroad for 2 years,I felt that I can't really be myself here in Finland. I was acting shy and didn't smile much-only because I realised that if I am more open and hug or kiss my friends on cheek (when I am not drunk) they thought I am crazy...that was an bad example,but :S. Here people are so prejudiced.Abroad we said hi to our neighbours,people on streets-even if we didn't know them..can easily open a conversation at a bus stop...there I didn't feel that they are judging me the way I look or the way I am.
About the looks..for most women it's not tthe most important thing,but it really depends on a person. I don't mind if a man looks nice,but it's more about a character. Once I dated a gy with a big belly,but he had some kind of charisma...the way he spoke etc...
But for some reason I am attracted to men with brown skin. Dunno why,and haven't really felt attracted to Finnish men,maybe they are not exciting and exotic :S.

Some people prefer looks over other things and for them a relation is more about physical attraction. You will find such people everywhere. Finnish girls might prefer it more than other parts of the world but still majority of girls is not much attracted towards looks only.

I can tell as a finnish young man that Finland is a great country to live except the countryside 'cos people are a bit different in bigger cities. Where I come from people are friendly and nice. I'm from Helsinki. I have a good friend in here from Southeast Asia. But unfortunately she doesn't speak finnish, so I promised to teach her. I wanna make her life much better 'cos I really love her so very much and I want she stays in Finland. I have a lot of friends from foreign countries like Vietnam, Kambodza, Philippines, Russia, Iran, Afganistan and St Kitts & Newis. Everyone of them lives in Finland. I suggest you to stay.
