Research Scientist, In vitro Biology

Description of unit:
In vitro Biology, Turku Laboratory supports Orion’s drug research and development projects with pharmacological expertise. We are responsible for screening and pharmacological profiling of study molecules as well as characterization of target proteins.


Description of position:
We are seeking a postdoctoral scientist with experience in the field of human induced pluripotent stem cells to work for the IMI StemBANCC project.

As a project Research Scientist you participate in setting up laboratory facilities for human induced pluripotent stem (hiPS) cell culture and you are responsible for generation of novel human disease models based on patient specific hiPS cells and their pharmacological utilization. The position includes expansion and differentiation of hiPS cells to desired target cells for mechanistic single-cell studies as well as for industrial scale drug screening. Also differentiated hiPS cells from commercial sources are used. You work in a multidisciplinary team, which utilizes pharmacological, electrophysiological, cell-imaging and high throughput screening techniques to characterize candidate drug targets and to implement human iPS-derived cell models to support drug discovery programs.


Requirements:
To be successful in the position, you should possess a Ph.D or M.Sc in developmental biology, biotechnology, neuroscience, animal physiology, biochemistry or related discipline and have expertise in iPS technology, cell culture and genetic manipulation of cells. Experience in electrophysiology or single cell imaging would be advantageous. Knowledge of in vitro models of sensory neurons and neurodegeneration would be valuable. You are expected to work well individually but committed to teamwork within a larger multidisciplinary team.

The chosen person requires an approved health examination, which also includes drug testing.
