Eikös "A maps onto B" ole vähän niin kuin "A kuvautuu B:lle". Tai "jokaista B:n alkiota vastaa yksi tai useampi A:n alkio".
Eli jotain tyyliin "Kohdista (a) ja (b) seuraa, että kaikkien hyödykkeiden tapauksessa jokainen hintavektori kuvautuu määrätylle liikakysynnän tai -tarjonnan rakenteelle ja vain yksi hintavektori kuvautuu liikakysynnän nollavektorille."
Matematiikassa onto tarkoittaa surjektiivista kuvausta.
Vastasinkin jo alla, että surjektio on se sivistyssana tuolle mitä selostin. Mutta olen aina vierastanut (laina)sanaa "surjektio". Englanninkielessäkin käytetään vain termiä "onto" mikä on paljon parempi. Mielestäni on selkeämpi sanoa, että "A kuvautuu B:lle", kuin että "kuvaus on surjektio A:lta B:lle". Jälkimmäinen kuulostaa lähinnä ulkomaankielisillä termeillä (muka-) hienostelulta.
Voihan tuon lauseen kääntää myös käyttäen sanaa "surjektio", mutta tulos on jotain kamalaa puolisuomea.
Niinpä, ja surjektiivinen kuvaus tarkoittaa tuota mitä edellä selostin.
