RENO, Nev. — Unseasonably warm weather continues across northern Nevada with record high temperatures in some places, including a balmy 70 degrees on Sunday in Yerington.
Reno posted a record 67 degrees and Carson City a record 66 on Sunday and the National Weather Service says both are flirting with similar all-time highs Monday.
In California, South Lake Tahoe had a record-high 60 degrees. Markleeville's high of 69 on Monday was a full 9 degrees hotter than the old record of 60 set in 1934.
Reno's old record for the date was 64 in 1920; Carson City's was 65 in 1961.
The heat wave is a far cry from the weather Reno experienced on Jan. 17, 1916. That day brought 22.5 inches of snow - the single biggest snowfall in Reno history.
