Hubble Deep Field (HDF)
The Hubble Telescope selected a pinpoint of space in the darkest regions of the Universe that to this point in time did not show any objects whatsoever in the most powerful Earth based telescopes we have. What we found staggers the imagination, hundreds of galaxies, and in just one pinpoint of space.
Hubble uncovered a bewildering assortment of at least 1,500 galaxies at various stages of evolution.
Staring at one spot in the sky for ten days, Hubble kept taking pictures one after another for the entire exposure time, accumulating data. Each exposure was typically 15 to 40 minutes long.

Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF)
Hubble Space Telescope released an image known as the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF), which was obtained by pointing the telescope at one part of the sky for an equivalent of 11 days. The image shown below shows a range of galaxies, some of which may be from the earliest moments in the Universe. The Hubble folks think that some of the little specs that you are seeing below are from objects with redshifts possibly as high as 12! If this is the case, these would be amongst the first objects formed in the Universe, since they would be originating from a time when the Universe was only 370 million years old.
